It started in a fashion shop in Lomé
Everbright & Co. takes its name from Ever Bright Fashion, the wholesale and retail fashion business founded in 2005 in Lomé, Togo, by our founder's father, Cyprian Akubude. Cypran grew up around that shop, in and out of it from around the age of twelve, and by sixteen he was working in it properly during every school holiday.
In a small business there are no departments. One day he was the storekeeper, the next he managed the warehouse, then sales, then the money. Everything lived on paper: stock counts, customer balances, supplier debts, the day's takings, all written into books by hand, recalculated by hand, and lost the moment a page went missing. No software, no digitization, just people wearing every hat at once. That is what running a retail and wholesale business in a developing country actually looks like from the inside, and there is no way to learn it except by living it.
That experience left a conviction that never faded: the businesses that need good software the most are exactly the ones that can least afford what it costs today. Everbright & Co. exists to close that gap.
Why the name
Ever and bright, carried from Ever Bright Fashion into the software company so the origin stays in view: this is not software imagined in a boardroom, it is software built from years inside a small business that never had any. The name is a promise to build for the people we came from.
And yes, the names are nearly identical: Cyprian founded Ever Bright Fashion, and his son Cypran founded Everbright & Co. The single letter between them is a story the family keeps to itself.

2005
Ever Bright Fashion opens in Lomé
Cyprian Akubude founds a wholesale and retail fashion business in Lomé, Togo. It grows the way small businesses do: on trust, long days and paper ledgers.
2008
Growing up in the shop
From around the age of twelve, Cypran is in and out of the business, watching how stock, customers and money actually move through a small company.
2012
Every role there is
By sixteen he works every school holiday in the business: storekeeping, warehouse management, sales, finance. No departments, no software, everything by hand. Firsthand knowledge no classroom teaches.
2016
The idea is born
Working in the family business, the thought takes shape: companies like this deserve real software. The skills to build it do not exist yet, but the idea never lets go.
2019
The move to Germany
A deliberate move to close the gap. With a BSc in Banking and Finance, the finance half was covered; Germany was about the technology half. An MA in International Business, specialized in Digital Transformation Management, self-taught Python, data science and data analytics, and a career across financial controlling, accounting and IT management. Finance and technology, the two things an ERP has to get right.
October 2025
Building begins
After years of quietly shaping the idea - features documented, screens sketched, principles settled - modern tools finally close the skills gap, and the first line of Softbooq is written. Simplicity is the core requirement from day one: someone with no ERP training and no finance background must be able to run their whole business with it, and it still has to stand next to the enterprise systems.
April 2026
Everbright & Co. is registered
The company is registered in Bonn, Germany, carrying the family business's name into its second generation. Operations soon move to Frankfurt am Main - the same city where Softbooq's EU data centre keeps its customers' data. Full circle.
Late 2026
Softbooq goes public
The platform is built and running on production infrastructure - eighteen modules, six connected apps, four languages. The public launch is set for late 2026. The idea from a paper-ledger fashion shop in Lomé becomes software any small business can afford.
What we believe
Enterprise-grade software should not be a privilege of enterprises. Small and medium businesses deserve tools as capable as anything the big players run, at a price that does not decide for them, with a design that does not require a consultant. Everything Everbright & Co. builds is measured against that.
